چکیده

This paper develops a hybrid/gain scheduled controller for moving the state of a diesel engine through a driving profile represented as a sequence of operating points in the seven-dimensional state space of a mean value breathing nonlinear engine state model. The calculations for the control design are based on a third-order (reduced) model of the diesel engine, on whose state space the operating points are projected. About each operating point, we generate a third-order nonlinear error model in polytopic form. Using the polytopic error model at each operating point, a control design is set forth as a system of LMIs. The solution of each system of LMIs produces a norm bounded controller guaranteeing that xi21 d →xi where xi is the ith desired operating point in the threedimensional state space. The control performance is then evaluated on the seventh order model. fDOI: 10.1115/1.1876473g

Modeling of a Diesel Engine with Intake Throttle, VGT, and EGR

A mean value model of a diesel engine with intake throttle, VGT, and EGR is developed, parameterized, and validated. The intended model applications are system analysis, simulation, and development of model-based control systems. The goal is to construct a model that describes the gas flow dynamics including the dynamics in the intercooler pressure, manifold pressures, turbocharger, EGR, and ac...

Evaluate the effect of biodiesel and EGR system on diesel engine emissions

Vehicle Emission is one of the main causes of environmental damage. Vehicle engines produce carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and many other harmful substances. An investigation was conducted using a compression-ignition engine fuelled with different ratios of blends of diesel and biodiesel at different EGR rates. The effects of different ratios of fuel blends and EG...

Control of variable geometry turbocharged diesel engines for reduced emissions

A multivariable control scheme is designed to minimize emission of nitrogen oxides NOx and generation of smoke in a Diesel engine equipped with a variable geometry tur bocharger VGT and an external exhaust gas recirculation system EGR Steady state optimization results in operat ing points where NOx emissions and smoke generation are highly coupled and require joint management by VGT and EGR act...

Control of EGR and VGT for Emission Control and Pumping Work Minimization in Diesel Engines

Legislators steadily increase the demands on lowered emissions from heavy duty vehicles. To meet these demands it is necessary to integrate technologies like Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Variable Geometry Turbochargers (VGT) together with advanced control systems. Control structures are proposed and investigated for coordinated control of EGR valve and VGT position in heavy duty diesel e...

Sliding Mode Control for Diesel Engine Using Extended State Observer

This paper does a research on turbocharged diesel engines both of air-path or speed-path alone, and proposes a cooperative control strategy of air and speed-path two loop TDE system. For modern diesel engines, accurate air/fuel ratio (AFR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates design are very important to meet the requirements of emission standards of NOx and PM. For the EGR and AFR rates a...
